1The Lord appeared to him by the terebinths of Mamre; he was sitting at the entrance of the tent as the day grew hot. 2Looking up, he saw three men standing near him. As soon as he saw them, he ran from the entrance of the tent to greet them and, bowing to the ground, 3he said, “My lords, if it please you, do not go on past your servant. 4Let a little water be brought; bathe your feet and recline under the tree. 5And let me fetch a morsel of bread that you may refresh yourselves; then go on—seeing that you have come your servant’s way.” They replied, “Do as you have said.” Genesis 18/1-5 Tanakh JPS 1985.
were standing beside him: Heb. עָלָיו, lit. over him. Before him, like (Num. 2:20) “And next to him (וְעָלָיו), the tribe of Manasseh,” but it is a euphemism in reference to the angels.
The L-rd is symbolized in the story where He appeared to Abraham by the terebinths of Mamre as three men standing near (beside) him.
The three men represent a host of the L-rd of Hosts. A man with divine beings like the man who wrestled with Jacob. It is three persons. The L-rd and the person of the spirit of the L-rd with a man.
G-d speaking to Abraham reveals that the L-rd can speak through a host just as He can speak through an angel and a spirit.
Rashi interprets the phrase “were standing beside him” as: Heb. עָלָיו, lit. over him. Before him, like (Num. 2:20): “And next to him (וְעָלָיו), the tribe of Manasseh,” but it is a euphemism in reference to the angels.
Two of the men are described as angels in the next chapter of Genesis. They are only men in this chapter for the purpose of symbolizing a host of the L-rd of Hosts.
I am a host of the L-rd of Hosts and G-d’s righteous servant of Isaiah 53 upon whom the spirit of the L-rd and the person of the spirit of the L-rd alighted upon in 2007. With me the L-rd and the person of the spirit of the L-rd are also over, before and next to me.
The L-rd is over and before me to my right (in front of but facing me about 10-15 feet away) and the person of the spirit of the Lord is next to me to my left and facing me.
They can and do move and can be within me but that is where His Presence is and the presence of the person of the spirit of G-d most of the time.
G-d’s Presence never leaves me though sometimes the presence of the person of the spirit of G-d does. Even then if I speak his name he answers.
