16For whoever blesses himself in the land
Shall bless himself by the true God;
And whoever swears in the land
Shall swear by the true God.
The former troubles shall be forgotten,
Shall be hidden from My eyes.

17For behold! I am creating
A new heaven and a new earth;
The former things shall not be remembered,
They shall never come to mind.

18Be glad, then, and rejoice forever
In what I am creating.
For I shall create Jerusalem as a joy,
And her people as a delight;

19And I will rejoice in Jerusalem
And delight in her people.
Never again shall be heard there
The sounds of weeping and wailing.

20No more shall there be an infant or graybeard
Who does not live out his days.
He who dies at a hundred years
Shall be reckoned a youth,
And he who fails to reach a hundred
Shall be reckoned accursed.

21They shall build houses and dwell in them,
They shall plant vineyards and enjoy their fruit.

22They shall not build for others to dwell in,
Or plant for others to enjoy.
For the days of My people shall be
As long as the days of a tree,
My chosen ones shall outlive
The work of their hands.

23They shall not toil to no purpose;
They shall not bear children for terror,
But they shall be a people blessed by the Lord,
And their offspring shall remain with them.

24Before they pray, I will answer;
While they are still speaking, I will respond.

25The wolf and the lamb shall graze together,
And the lion shall eat straw like the ox,
And the serpent’s food shall be earth.
In all My sacred mount
Nothing evil or vile shall be done
—said the Lord.     Isaiah 65/16/25 Tanakh JPS 1985.

22For as the new heaven and the new earth
Which I will make
Shall endure by My will
—declares the Lord—
So shall your seed and your name endure.

23And new moon after new moon,
And sabbath after sabbath,
All flesh shall come to worship Me
—said the Lord.

24They shall go out and gaze
On the corpses of the men who rebelled against Me:
Their worms shall not die,
Nor their fire be quenched;
They shall be a horror
To all flesh.
And new moon after new moon,
And sabbath after sabbath,
All flesh shall come to worship Me
—said the Lord.     Isaiah 66/22-24 Tanakh JPS 1985.

10Bring the full tithe into the storehouse, and let there be food in My House, and thus put Me to the test—said the Lord of Hosts. I will surely open the floodgates of the sky for you and pour down blessings on you; 11and I will banish the locusts from you, so that they will not destroy the yield of your soil; and your vines in the field shall no longer miscarry—said the Lord of Hosts. 12And all the nations shall account you happy, for you shall be the most desired of lands—said the Lord of Hosts.     Malachi 3/10-12 Tanakh JPS 1985.

15And so, we account the arrogant happy: they have indeed done evil and endured; they have indeed dared God and escaped.” 16In this vein have those who revere the Lord been talking to one another. The Lord has heard and noted it, and a scroll of remembrance has been written at His behest concerning those who revere the Lord and esteem His name. 17And on the day that I am preparing, said the Lord of Hosts, they shall be My treasured possession; I will be tender toward them as a man is tender toward a son who ministers to him. 18And you shall come to see the difference between the righteous and the wicked, between him who has served the Lord and him who has not served Him.

19For lo! That day is at hand, burning like an oven. All the arrogant and all the doers of evil shall be straw, and the day that is coming—said the Lord of Hosts—shall burn them to ashes and leave of them neither stock nor boughs. 20But for you who revere My name a sun of victory shall rise to bring healing. You shall go forth and stamp like stall-fed calves, 21and you shall trample the wicked to a pulp, for they shall be dust beneath your feet on the day that I am preparing—said the Lord of Hosts.

22Be mindful of the Teaching of My servant Moses, whom I charged at Horeb with laws and rules for all Israel.

23Lo, I will send the prophet Elijah to you before the coming of the awesome, fearful day of the Lord. 24He shall reconcile parents with children and children with their parents, so that, when I come, I do not strike the whole land with utter destruction.
Lo, I will send the prophet Elijah to you before
the coming of the awesome, fearful day of the Lord.     Malachi 3/15-24 Tanakh JPS 1985.

31See, a time is coming—declares the Lord—when I will make a new covenant with the House of Israel and the House of Judah. 32It will not be like the covenant I made with their fathers, when I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt, a covenant which they broke, though I espoused them—declares the Lord. 33But such is the covenant I will make with the House of Israel after these days—declares the Lord: I will put My Teaching into their inmost being and inscribe it upon their hearts. Then I will be their God, and they shall be My people. 34No longer will they need to teach one another and say to one another, “Heed the Lord“; for all of them, from the least of them to the greatest, shall heed Me—declares the Lord.
For I will forgive their iniquities,
And remember their sins no more.

35Thus said the Lord,
Who established the sun for light by day,
The laws of moon and stars for light by night,
Who stirs up the sea into roaring waves,
Whose name is Lord of Hosts:

36If these laws should ever be annulled by Me
—declares the Lord—
Only then would the offspring of Israel cease
To be a nation before Me for all time.

37Thus said the Lord: If the heavens above could be measured, and the foundations of the earth below could be fathomed, only then would I reject all the offspring of Israel for all that they have done—declares the Lord.

38See, a time is coming—declares the Lord—when the city shall be rebuilt for the Lord from the Tower of Hananel to the Corner Gate; 39and the measuring line shall go straight out to the Gareb Hill, and then turn toward Goah. 40And the entire Valley of the Corpses and Ashes, and all the fields as far as the Wadi Kidron, and the corner of the Horse Gate on the east, shall be holy to the Lord. They shall never again be uprooted or overthrown.     Jeremiah 31/31-38 Tanakh JPS 1985.

Commentary:

This is Isiah’s poetry of Heaven:

“Before they pray, I will answer; While they are still speaking, I will respond. The wolf and the lamb shall graze together, And the lion shall eat straw like the ox, And the serpent’s food shall be earth. In all My sacred mount Nothing evil or vile shall be done —said the Lord.”

This is Isiah’s poetry of Hell, Gehinnom or She’ol:

“They shall go out and gaze On the corpses of the men who rebelled against Me: Their worms shall not die, Nor their fire be quenched; They shall be a horror To all flesh. And new moon after new moon, And sabbath after sabbath, All flesh shall come to worship Me —said the Lord.”

And Isaiah writes the words G-d tells him to write just as He tells me. One word at a time. Just like these words. Just as He did with Moses and the Torah.

This is Malachi writing for the L-rd of the world we live in with symbolism:

“Bring the full tithe into the storehouse, and let there be food in My House, and thus put Me to the test—said the Lord of Hosts. I will surely open the floodgates of the sky for you and pour down blessings on you; and I will banish the locusts from you, so that they will not destroy the yield of your soil; and your vines in the field shall no longer miscarry—said the Lord of Hosts. And all the nations shall account you happy, for you shall be the most desired of lands—said the Lord of Hosts.”

This is Malachi writing for the L-rd of those who will see the Heaven He is creating and those who will not:

“All the arrogant and all the doers of evil shall be straw, and the day that is coming—said the Lord of Hosts—shall burn them to ashes and leave of them neither stock nor boughs. 20But for you who revere My name a sun of victory shall rise to bring healing. You shall go forth and stamp like stall-fed calves, 21and you shall trample the wicked to a pulp, for they shall be dust beneath your feet on the day that I am preparing—said the Lord of Hosts.”

The arrogant and all the doers of evil are not going to be burned to ashes and those who  revere G-d will not trample the wicked to a pulp. The arrogant and evil die and those who revere the L-rd live on above them.

This is Malachi writing the words of the L-rd  of the world we live in without symbolism:

“Be mindful of the Teaching of My servant Moses, whom I charged at Horeb with laws and rules for all Israel. Lo, I will send the prophet Elijah to you before the coming of the awesome, fearful day of the Lord. He shall reconcile parents with children and children with their parents,…..”

These are direct words of G-d that He is sending the prophet Elijah before Him to be a teacher of G-d’s laws and rules for all Israel and he comes with the covenant of sin forgiveness of the Jewish people. Everyone gets a fresh start to go to Synagogue and practice Judaism heeding and revering the L-rd.

This is the covenant of sin forgiveness of the Jewish people written by Jeremiah:

“For I will forgive their iniquities, And remember their sins no more”

This forgiveness is said to cause this:

I will put My Teaching into their inmost being and inscribe it upon their hearts. Then I will be their God, and they shall be My people. 34No longer will they need to teach one another and say to one another, “Heed the Lord“; for all of them, from the least of them to the greatest, shall heed Me—declares the Lord.

And G-d achieves this poetic ideal of His teachings on every heart with the reality of the world and the diverse people Israel by sending the prophet Elijah before Him to be a teacher of G-d’s laws and rules for all Israel with the covenant of sin forgiveness of the Jewish people.

In Jeremiah 31/31 “See, a time is coming—declares the Lord—when I will make a new covenant with the House of Israel and the House of Judah.”

In Jeremiah 31/38 “See, a time is coming—declares the Lord—when the city shall be rebuilt for the Lord from the Tower of Hananel to the Corner Gate; 39and the measuring line shall go straight out to the Gareb Hill, and then turn toward Goah. 40And the entire Valley of the Corpses and Ashes, and all the fields as far as the Wadi Kidron, and the corner of the Horse Gate on the east, shall be holy to the Lord. They shall never again be uprooted or overthrown.

“See, a time is coming” for the covenant of sin forgiveness is when Jerusalem has been rebuilt after its destruction. It is not Jerusalem rebuilt for the second Temple because Israel was uprooted and overthrown again.

They come together. When Jerusalem has been rebuilt as it is now the covenant of sin forgiveness comes with it. That is the “when” of a time is coming. And that is Jerusalem today. It is Jerusalem for the third Temple that G-d will return to suddenly as He declares in Malachi 3 (In the days of Jesus and John the Baptist G-d was in His Temple so John could not be Elijah).

Which is why Elijah is here. The angel of His Presence who is the angel of the covenant for a time to come has arrived. G-d is here. His very Presence on earth for the day of the L-rd.

And after the awesome, fearful day of the L-rd the Jewish people will never be overthrown and uprooted again.

And I write this commentary as HaMoshiach, the descendant of David through Solomon upon whom the spirit of the Holy G-d alighted upon in fulfillment of Isaiah 11/1-2 and as G-d’s righteous servant described in Isaiah 53 whose purpose might prosper and makes the many righteous and as Elijah of Malachi 3 whose purpose might prosper and makes the many righteous and as the prophet like Moses who writes the words of G-d conversing with Him throughout the process of preparing these commentaries as one friend speaks to another friend and as a man with divine beings who are the person of the spirit of the Holy G-d and His Presence of the person of the Holy G-d who directs and controls everything I do and say as a host of the L-rd of Hosts.

Not as a Sage.
